Puno

History:
At the Collao´s tableland, it was developed the outstanding Tiahuanaco culture of Pre-Inca period. In this place is located the lake Titicaca, which gave  the origin to Manco Capac and Mama Ocllo mythic legend, who were considered as children of the Sun God and according to the Quechuan tribes, they came out of its waters and they headed toward Cusco in order to found the main state of Inkas empire.

           The city of Puno was founded in 1668 under the name of   "Villa Rica de San Carlos", by a viceroy called The Earl of Lemos.

Description:
Puno was built at the border of the lake Titicaca. It is a water port that shows us landscapes of singular beauty. At its plains and mountains, people dedicate themselves to the breeding of llamas and alpacas in places of poor vegetation but of plenty natural pasture land. People also dedicate to the elaboration of handicrafts and fine textiles  of  alpaca´s wool.

Native inhabitants from Puno belong also to the Aimara ethnos, their physical features are adapted to the cold of the high plateaus. They have a great pulmonary capability, their thorax is well developed and they have high red blood cells that provide them a great physical strength
