
Arequipa
Arequipa, at the foot of Misti, a beautiful snow-covered cone of over 5.500 mts, is rounded by majestic volcanoes; in one of them it was found the world-famous Mummy, called Juanita. Arequipa is located at 2360 mts above sea level in the mountains of the Peruvian Andes. Arequipa is the second city of Peru.
It is known as the White city for the especial whiteness of the "ashlar", a volcanic stone, which Arequipa has in great quantities. Those stones were used in order to build splendid temples such as The Company, Monasteries such as Santa Catalina, and Palaces such as Huasacache, also known as the Founder's Mansion. Its beauty, its special light and its landscapes attract the visitors.
The Colca Canyon is located in Arequipa. It is the deepest and beautiful canyon of the world. It is considered as the cradle of the Condor. The heights that surround it are full of auquenidos becoming the first production and exporting center of the wool, mainly of Alpaca and the fine Vicuña.
