The National Park of the Manu, with a surface of 1'716295,22 hectares, is the biggest natural area protected in Peru and one of the biggest of our planet, whose biological variety does not have counterpart. This park has the whole basin of the Manu river belonging to Cusco and Madre de Dios regions.
The Manu park protects more than 800 kind of birds such as: the harpy eagle, the jabiru, the cockerel of the rocks and others, more than 200 kind of mammals like the black maquisapa monkey, the otters, the black lizard, the otorongo, the little tiger, the spectacle bear and the taruca.
There are many varieties and reptiles unclassified.
There are more than 2000 single species and varieties, included giant orchids and trees which reach up to 45mtrs of height and 3mtrs of diameter.
In this zone, native people also live with own traditions, culture and tongue such as Matsiguengas, amahuacas, yaminahuas, piros, amarakaeries, huachipaires and the nahuas.
