It is said that the Amazonian forests are the only places that gives the feeling of witnessing the dawn of the times. Thousands of visitors observe the diversity of forest and the rivers of the zone when they are getting to the city of Puerto Maldonado, the capital of Madre de Dios. They have to be ready to go aboard in a journey filled with emotion and discoveries.
The special nature of the jungle of Madre de Dios is due to the masses of cold air in June from austral Atlantic, and they originate a sudden downfall of temperature, reaching up to 5ºC or less. This meteorological eventual phenomenon is called as "friaje" in this zone.
These forests also have many places undiscovered and many unknown living sorts by the science.
Puerto Maldonado was founded on July 10, 1902. After the explorer, Faustino Maldonado, navigate the river of Madre de Dios up to the join with the river of Tambopata, the city was named.
Puerto Maldonado is the entry to the three national parks of the Peruvian Amazon which have an extraordinary diversity of savage sorts of flora and fauna. Those parks are Tambopata - Candamo, Bahuaja - Sonene and Manu.
